Girls Day Nelson! Expo
Just hot off the wire was the Girls Day Nelson! Expo, held at the Rutheford Hotel on May 9th 2009.
40 local traders exhibited a fantastic range of goods and services available to the women of Nelson-Tasman. The atmosphere was warm and informal at this boutique event, which raised in excess of $800 for the Nelson Women's Refuge, and which has established its niche in the local market with repeat bookings for next year.

The Pink Tea Party 2009!
This year, the Pink Tea Party had a really fun theme - Pink WOW! In keeping with the incredibly generous offer from clothing designer Ramona Millen to allow us to display her stunning pink cardboard crinoline, we offered a phenomenal prize - worth over $400 - to the winner of the "Most Amazing Carboard Dress"! There wasn't a woman on the planet who didn't want to win that prize! Someof the efforts were truly outstanding, and nobody envied style consultant Judy Crowe the challenge of declaring the winner! Congratulations went to Randi Hutchinson of Mapua, for her gorgeous gladiator dress, all made from gold and silver wrapping paper! It was good enough to go out in, and that was the clincher!
Randi won the Taschen Encyclopaedia of Fashion Design, a bag full of pink goodies, and ... a much-coveted colour consultation with Judy Crowe.
If you fancy a fun morning tea with a difference, and helping to raise vital funding for Breast Cancer Reserach appeals to you, watch this space for details of the 2010 Pink Tea Party. Our theme this year is Fantastic Hats, and jut like every other year, its guaranteed to be a lot of fun!
We'll have the usual raffles, silent auction and totally delicious food, and a Representative from the Breast Cancer Aotearoa Coalition will come down from Auckland to talk to us again about what the BCAC has been achieving in the previous year.
Tickets can be reserved in advance for this fabulous event, with ALL profits to the charity. Grab a group of mates and book now, because there will be no door sales. Tickets are strictly limited, and when they're gone, they're GONE!

Tim Tam Pink Tea Party!
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! So what did we do? We put the FUN into Fundraising, and had a cup of tea!
80 guests came to the Nelson SHoe-Themed Pink Tim Tam Tea Party on a bright Sunday morning in October. Claire Ryan, Deputy Chair of the Breast Cancer Aotearoa Coalition came down from Auckland with breast cancer survivor and author Jane Bissell, to talk to everyone about the BCAC's latest initiative in providing a comprehensive and valuable resource pack for women newly diagnosed with the disease.
Morning tea was absolutely splendid, thanks to our wonderful sponsors, and there was a rare chance to see Maxine Cook's display of part of her personal collection of 350 pairs of shoes! Through ticket sales, lucky draws and raffles for a stunning array of donated prizes, $2000 was raised for the BCAC.

Guy*Stuff*Nelson Men's Expo
The Main Event for Men in Nelson! This event happened on August 30th 2009 at the Tahuna Function Centre. Just 30 unique trade stands offered a special showcase of what's locally available for "local lads" of all ages. $400 ws raised for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of New Zealand, and the event helped the Foundation kick off its Blue September Prostate Cancer Awareness campaign. Prostate cancer unfortunately dosn't bypass the blokes at the Top of the South, so this was a really relevant event for local guys. Prize draws, competitions, raffles etc all got snapped up, and the information on wealth, health, wisdom and fun - all of what life's really all about - was hard to beat.
Stars As Their Idols! Fundraiser
What a fantastic night out at the Playhouse Theatre Restaurant this was, on Sunday August 23rd. A selection of stunning, well-known Kiwi artists performed fantastic tributes to their idols, with a comic panel of judges who added to the entertainment! Simon Bowel, Paula Pit-Bull and Randy Sod delivered the verdicts, with the audience, as the final judges of who was the best of the night.
Jason Chasland won, with his heartfelt rendition of Justin Hawkins from the Darkness, with Eamon Cann coming runner up as Bing Crosby.
It was a fantastic night, and we can't wait for an excuse to do it all again!
"Dear Maxine... Thank you so much for your time, effort, creativity and support with the Stars as their Idols event, in helping us to fulfil our dream of sendign Rebekah Smith to Sanoviv Medical Institute" ... Becky Lawson
Corporate Christmas Parties
Murder Mystery parties were popular in the run up to Christmas, with some groups wanting something a bit more special for their staff than just a standard dinner out. Murder scenarios were written specifically for specific venues and were played out across tables of 6 or 8 in rounds punctuated by a delicious three-course Christmas dinner, in decorated Christmas settings. Those nights were heaps of fun, with most people taking on their roles with real gusto! Different motives across the tables, and opportunities to embellish their characters with all sorts of hilarious accents, quirks and mannerisms, kept players on their toes, and gave everybody lots to talk and laugh about afterwards!
Other parties were slightly more genteel, in stunning settings, with lovely Christmas decorations, small but thoughtful and beautifully wrapped gifts for staff, fabulous buffet food, and fine local wines.
Great Event! can organise your Christmas function! Plan early, and reward your staff for their hard work all year with something a little bit special. Creative themes don't have to break the bank, and you'll be surprised at how quickly the arrangements can come together to give you the most fun andmemorable Christmas party your staff have ever had!
In April 2010 Her Business Network Nelson proudly presented the Annah Stretton Style Workshop! Clothes, hair styling, make-up, accessories and eye-wear specialists explained and demonstrated to a group of keen business women just how easy it can be to get "camera ready" in less than half an hour - ready to walk through the door looking fantastic as the front line face of their business!
Three lucky business women who pre-registered for the event were selected to receive make-overs! They were dressed, their hair and make-up were done, and accessories and eye-wear perfectly matched to suit, before they went of to have stunning photos taken by a professional photographer for that all-important head shot that all women in business need. The results were just gorgeous.
